Understanding The Intersections of HIV/AIDS and Intimate Partner Violence (IPV)

Course Description: This recording will increase participants understanding and knowledge of how HIV/AIDS diagnosis intersects with Intimate Partner Violence, particularly among marginalized populations throughout South Carolina. Participants will increase their knowledge and core competencies regarding the dynamics of IPV that will build their capacity to strengthen referral mechanisms and enhance existing collaborations with community partners.

Learning Outcomes: After completing this activity, the participant will be able to: Define Human Immuno-deficiency Virus (HIV); Acquired Immuno-Deficiency Syndrome and Intimate Partner Violence. Explore statistical data related to HIV/AIDS and IPV. Discuss the dynamics and intersectionality of intimate partner violence and how HIV/AIDS impact survivor’s experiences. Discuss how layers of trauma may affect individual survivors of IPV by developing a trauma-informed lens. State how to advocate for survivors of IPV with a non-judgmental, trauma-informed approach.
