This course will provide participants with a basic understanding of Mexican culture, values and beliefs and how they relate to the provision of healthcare.

After completing this activity, the participant will be able to:
- Describe culturally based traditions, health beliefs, values, attitudes and behaviors among the Mexican population.
- Recognize cultural issues that affect treatment plans.
- Identify types of medication use, including traditional folk remedies for various illnesses.
- Develop and/or expand a base vocabulary of cultural terms and phrases in Spanish.
Length of Course
Licensed Nurses: Upstate AHEC is accredited as a provider of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Centers Commission on Accreditation.
Upon successful completion of this program, participants will receive 1.0 contact hours
Respiratory Care Practitioners: 1.0 clock hours will be awarded by Upstate AHEC, an approved provider of continuing education for respiratory care practitioners by the SC Board of Medical Examiners.
Social Workers: This program has been approved forÂ 1.0 clock hours of non-social work continuing education by Upstate AHEC, as part of the SC AHEC system, under its accreditation by the SC Board of Social Work Examiners.
Counselors and Therapists: This program has been approved for 1.00 hours of continuing education by SC AHEC under its accreditation by the SC Board of Examiners for Licensure of Professional Counselors, Marriage and Family Therapists and Psycho-Educational Specialists.
