This course is free.
This program will increase the participant's knowledge regarding intimate partner violence in vulnerable populations including: young children, teens, young adults, the disabled, elderly, Native Americans, African American Women, the LGBTQ community, undocumented immigrants, pregnant women and men. The program also focuses on the lack of cultural competency in domestic violence with an emphasis on systemic racism and overt/covert oppression, implicit/explicit biases among service providers, and systemic barriers affecting communities of color including: law enforcement, judicial systems, domestic violence service providers, lack of available community services for intimate partner violence and racial loyalty.

After completing this activity, the participant will be able to:
- Define intimate partner violence on vulnerable populations.
- Discuss the effects of intimate partner violence on vulnerable populations.
- Discuss marginalized/un-served communities of color.
- Identify populations residing in rural areas.
- List the typology of barriers preventing self-reporting.
- List difficulties receiving and seeking services.
- Identify the lack of cultural competency in domestic violence.
- List intersectional approaches to intimate partner violence.
- Identify strategies for inclusion.
Length of Course
Licensed Nurses: Upstate AHEC is an accredited provider of Nursing Professional Development by the American Nurses Credentialing Centers Commission on Accreditation.
Upon successful completion of this program, participants will receive 4.0 contact hours
Respiratory Care Practitioners: 4.0 clock hours will be awarded by Upstate AHEC, an approved provider of continuing education for respiratory care practitioners by the SC Board of Medical Examiners.
Social Workers: This program has been approved forÂ 4.0 clock hours of non-social work continuing education by Upstate AHEC, as part of the SC AHEC system, under its accreditation by the SC Board of Social Work Examiners.
Counselors and Therapists: This program has been approved for 4.00 hours of continuing education by SC AHEC under its accreditation by the SC Board of Examiners for Licensure of Professional Counselors, Marriage and Family Therapists and Psycho-Educational Specialists.
Massage Therapists: This program has been approved for 4.0 hours of continuing education by the SC Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation for Massage Therapy. SC State Provider Number is 2 Expires 6/30/2018.
