Course Description

This course is intended to provide the nurse with all they need to know to safely administer and monitor blood transfusions.

  1. Describe the steps in obtaining a sample for type and cross-match to meet AABB standards
  2. List the regulatory requirements for checking blood prior to administration.
  3. List the different blood components and the specific administration requirements.
  4. Identify signs and symptoms of different transfusion reactions.
